ALMA Memo #484 A New Configuration for the ALMA Laser Synthesizer
نویسنده
چکیده
This report describes the results of a test of a new configuration of laser synthesizer for ALMA. The ALMA laser synthesizer is the source of the 1 LO photonic reference, in which a two-wavelength optical beatnote is transmitted by optical fiber from the ALMA AOS technical building to each of the array antennas. It is then used at the antenna as the reference for the first local oscillator, after a photomixer converts the beatnote into a radio frequency in the range 27-142 GHz. This report is a condensed version of a more detailed test report available on ALMAEDM[1]. In this new configuration, a slave DFB fiber laser (DFB-FL) is phase-locked to a master laser using an external fiber frequency shifter (FFS). The use of an FFS as an external tuning element removes the requirement for fast modulation response from the slave laser that had heretofore been an obstacle in finding a suitable tunable slave laser. This technique has been implemented previously for very low phase-noise applications [2, 3]. The relatively wide modulation bandwidth allows for a wide bandwidth phaselock loop. Coupled with the intrinsically low phase noise of the DFB-FL, the resulting beatnote is shown to have very low phase noise.

ALMA Memo No. 335 Phase Drift Measurements of YIG-Tuned Oscillator Sources for the ALMA LO
In this memo, we present measured phase drift data of a YIG-tuned oscillator (YTO) multiplied to mmwave frequencies, a prototype of the baseline ALMA LO source. The test setup and analysis algorithms are described. We also discuss phase drift added by mmwave multipliers and power amplifiers, with the conclusion that their contribution is insignificant. Various components and system concepts are...
متن کاملLow Phase Noise Laser Synthesizer with Simple Configuration Adopting Phase Modulator and Fiber Bragg Gratings
We introduce a novel laser synthesizer with a simple configuration that contains no phase lock loop. This laser synthesizer generates an optical beat signal by modulating a CW light using a phase modulator and selecting two line spectra from modulation sidebands using serially-connected fiber Bragg gratings. With this configuration, the optical beat signal is obtained from a single laser source...

In the present study, age, growth and reproduction of Carassius auratus were investigated in the Alma-Gol and Ala-Gol (northern Iran) from September 2000 to August 2002. Among the total of 1450 specimens, the estimated ages ranged from 0+ to 8+ years. C. auratus showed an allometric growth, negatively in Alma-Gol and positively in Ala-Gol. The von Bertalanffy growth curves were fitted to mean t...
متن کاملALMA memo 435 A Hybrid Option for the First LOs using Direct Photonic LO Driver
We propose a hybrid option for the first local oscillators (LOs) of ALMA in which a direct photonic LO driver is used to drive cold multipliers. The photomixer using NTT uni-travelling carrier photodiode has been demonstrated to have high power of 2 m W at 100 GHz and low amplitude noise of < 7 − 17 K/μW in the frequency range of 98 − 105 GHz. This option simplifies the LO part of the cartridge...
